Description
An
exceptional, highly tactile example of late-Victorian Scottish utility glass.
This vibrant mid-green mouth-blown flask features the rare archaic "Ainsliey
Whisky" embossed lettering across the shoulder, identifying it as an
early bottling from James Ainslie & Co. of Leith, Scotland (circa
1885–1890).
What
elevates this specific piece from a standard advertising flask into a premier
display item is its spectacular array of primitive manufacturing anomalies. The
glass batch is absolutely loaded with character, featuring copious large 1cm
air bubbles (seed/bullseye bubbles) trapped within the walls, crude potstone
inclusions from the furnace lining, and a distinct glass slump where
the heavy molten vessel subtly warped as it cooled.
The base
features a deep, smooth dimple bottom (post-bottom mold construction)
with a beautifully finished applied double-collar lip. Free from modern
processing refinements, it holds all the chaotic charm that antique glass
purists look for.
