Description
An
exceptional, highly collectible British Art Deco desk clock featuring an
architectural, geometric octagonal bezel measuring a substantial 3.5 inches in
diameter. Hallmarked in London, 1929, the casing is crafted from premium Britannia
Standard Silver (.958 purity), an optional high-grade fineness preferred by
prestigious workshops during the interwar era for its brilliant lustre and
crisp engraving details.
The
silver fascia boasts striking, authentic Art Deco geometric chased decoration
that catches the light beautifully. The piece has been left strictly
unpolished, showcasing a wonderful, natural brown-tinged historic patina
that beautifully highlights the depth of the chased lines and lends immense
character to the piece. It frames a classic period dial with elegant hands and
Arabic numerals.
Housing a
high-quality 8-day mechanical movement, this timepiece has been tested
and is in good working order, keeping excellent time across its winding
cycle.
Condition
Report
·
Movement: Fully
functional, running smoothly, and in good working order.
·
Silver Case: In very
good vintage condition with clear, crisp hallmarks, (although hidden by the
movement), and geometric chased details. No major dents. Retains an
exceptional, authentic aged brown patina.
·
Flaws to Note: The
original rear fold-out easel strut is missing, however comes complete with
shown clear plastic stand, or it could easily be fitted with a replacement by a
restorer. There is a small 7mm scratch to the crystal not seen on the photos,
and several small scratches to the face, (two are clearly shown). This
structural absence is common for the era and has been fully factored into the
pricing.
