For sale is a beautiful, authentic antique
late-Victorian / Edwardian lady's longguard chain (also historically known
as a muff or guard chain). Measuring 38 inches in total length, this
versatile utility piece features a classic chunky curb link style and
terminates in a traditional open S-hook clasp designed to comfortably hold a
pocket watch, lorgnette, or decorative charms.
The Pendant:
The chain features a prominent, beautifully polished natural carnelian
chalcedony fob pendant. The stone has deep, rich orange-red tones and
displays wonderful organic depth, complete with natural dark mineral/iron
oxide inclusions inside the stone that beautifully verify its genuine,
earth-mined origin (not modern glass or plastic).
Condition & Metal Composition:
The chain and setting feature a bright, rich golden hue. It is
unmarked/unhallmarked and has a comfortable, wearable total weight of 30
grams, which indicates it is constructed of a high-quality antique base
metal like rolled gold, gilt brass, or pinchbeck utilizing hollow-link
construction popular for the era. The piece is in excellent antique condition
with a fully functional hook.
